Make the Most of You

Adust
Nothing in our world remains static.
It's either growing or declining.
Unless you adjust to the changes, you'll stultify.
Treat change as an opportunity to refresh.
The longer you resist, the greater the shock.
Adjust gradually.

'They must often change, who would be constant in happiness or wisdom'
Confucius (551BC-479BC)

I still need to share my 'Make the most of you' but this statement from Colin Wright caught my attention today and I thought I would share it!

What can someone stand to gain by putting in the effort to simplify their life?
More of the good stuff, less of the bad. “Good” and “bad” defined by the person in question; it’ll be different for everyone.

What it means, essentially, is carving away the excess, the dross, the stuff we’re told we’re supposed to have, the things we’re told we’re supposed to do, the relationships we’re told we’re supposed to maintain even though they’re toxic for us—we cut that away and make more room for the things that make us happiest. That fulfil us and challenge us and help us grow.

Simplicity isn’t about having stark white walls or the right computer or clothing. It’s not the Instagrammable, hashtagged version of “minimalism.” It’s about less of better. And once again, “better” according to your standards and no one else’s.

Squeeze My Day

I have decided to do this 100-day challenge as a little Project Life book... I will drop back in weekly with a photo but will not be doing the hash tag # thingy... So far I have prepared the cutout items to use for this and gathered my project life cards. I will not be putting the book together until the last month of the challenge. I will be using little photos. If you want to know more about the 100 days you can click on the photo about and it will link to the site>>>

Enjoy your day, I will be back later in the week with my 'Make the most of you quote' and a photo of this project.

The importance of being fully present sounds obvious.
But in our maelstrom of bewildering change,
it's easy to wander mentally and emotionally.
Being there allows us to fully participate in our lives,
not be just a casual observer,
always focused on some future notion.

The living moment is everything
D.H. Lawewnxw (1885 - 1930)

We are heading into the autumn season here in Australia... I love love this season!

'Make the most of you'

Tell your story
Be the writer/director of your own life story.
Be the poet and the poem.
Be proud of where you've come from,
your achievements and your aspirations.
Tell your story in the way you live.

'There is just one life for each of us. Our Own'
Euripides (480BC - 406BC)

“Hope” is the thing with feathers  by Emily Dickinson
“Hope” is the thing with feathers –
That perches in the soul –
And sings the tune without the words –
And never stops – at all –
And sweetest – in the Gale – is heard –
And sore must be the storm –
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm –
I’ve heard it in the chillest land –
And on the strangest Sea –
Yet – never – in Extremity,
It asked a crumb – of me.

'Squeeze the Day'

DO remember that the best things in life are free.

To care for yourself, you don’t need to stay at a five-star resort. Meditation, gratitude lists, deep conversations, hugs, journaling sessions, positive affirmations, and listening to your favorite song are all examples of simple self-care strategies that don’t cost a cent. I love nothing better than curling up with a good book borrowed from a friend or the local library.

The book I am reading at the moment is called Sapphire Falls by Fleur McDonald...
Fleur is an Australian (I love books set in my country and written by fellow Australians) I have just started the book, so will come back later for a review.
My Review 3/5 I loved the first half of the book, as it took me into the story. I felt like I was entering the shed with the sheep. BUT: I felt that having the two storylines running side by side only confused the plot. I thought the end was rushed... Still an enjoyable read.

'Make the most of you'

Be eternally curious

Perhaps the most valuable trait of all is curiosity.
It nurtures hope and optimism.
It inspires invention.
It nourishes intelligence and drives progress.
Encourage it.
Embrace its flow and share its rewards.

'I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious'
Albert Einstein (1879-1955)

Just like life, decorating is all about perspective.
It’s about learning to live with what you have and embracing every inch of the imperfect.
The flaws.
The character.
The dings and dents and nicks.
Because truly?
Just between us, here’s the truth that we know, but we often forget.
All those imperfections are so much more beautiful and amazing and incredible….
….than perfect ever dreamed of being.

Ashley Campbell & Family - "Try A Little Kindness" | Live at the Grand O...

Making this my theme song for 2018,

Love that Glen Campbell's sisters sing along with Ashley... I love country music and Glen Campbell was a legend.

I am setting myself a little weekly challenge and I am calling it

'Squeeze the Day'

Haven't set the challenge fully yet but I have penciled it into my planner and putting it here to remind me to just squeeze time for me into my day to show me a little Kindness.

Monday, 1 January 2018

The end of 2017 was a bit of a blur... we madly packed and moved interstate!
I used my One Little Word 'JOY' right to the end and now I welcome my new word 'KINDNESS' into 2018.

I always do a little purchase of an item each month of the year but this year I am just going to share a little tale from a little book 'Make the most of you' each month. I hope you will enjoy them.

Value your loved ones:

It seems so obvious.
But how often do we take our
dearest ones for granted?
Remember how they have supported us
at times when nobody else would.
Think of how they form part of the fabric of our lives.
Take time to tell them how much you love them.
Treasure the time you have with them.

'Remember that wherever your heart is, there you will find your treasure.'
Paulo Coelho (1947) 'The Alchemist'

My first flower for 2017 arrived via a different way than expected last night. While out walking in the evening with hubby, we passed a small group of teenage boys. When one stood in front of me and asked would you like this FLOWER. I, of course, couldn't refuse such a lovely item from a sweet fellow. He was so darn polite in the asking. It is a lightish yellow with a touch of pink in the center. A beautiful summer flower called a hibiscus.

I have held my one little word STILL close to my heart this year., and I learnt a lot from bringing Stillness within my heart and actions over the last 12 months. As I leave 2016 and go into 2017 I have chosen the word JOY to carry throughout the new year. I am a little sad to let go of the Stillness that walked with me in 2016 but I look forward to sending out JOY to all and living by Richard Wagners quote 'Joy is not in things but is in us' Have the Happiest 2017 blog readers. This year I will be looking out for Flowers as my little personal shopping item across the year and I have choosen YELLOW as the yearly colour. It is such a happy Joyful colour.

Wednesday, 23 November 2016

My word for 2016 has been 'STILL' so when this little quote popped up in a little online class. I knew I had to save it to my blog. I choose to still my mind & actions this year, next year I will be returning with a different word. I have been purchasing a few birds as the year flowed by... Will share a photo of them when I get around to taking a photo. My camera has been sitting gathering dust, along with a lot of crafty stuff.  I slowly return to a digital world.... I have been letting go of a lot of my personal stuff and making a simple less cluttered home. Looking forward to keeping my word STILL until 2017 rolls around, it's been wonderful to let my mind still and not stress about blogging or keeping up with the JONES in the crafty world....

I thought I would post a little about myself to requaint you with me.... :)

What is your name and profession?

My name is Lucy O'Malley-Powter, I am -- years young. My profession? I have a dream to create, as I want to be a graphic/creative designer! So I am a STUDENT who is studying the fundamentals of design to make it happen...
Tell me about the place that you call home and how it inspires your work?
I reside on the beautiful Central Coast in New South Wales Australia, which for me has a huge influence on my work, it is such a unique and exciting environment, it has the feel of a small coastal town but has the innovation of a big city. It’s a perfect place for a creative to constantly feel inspired.
Do you have a favourite little escape or local hangout?
If I’m not at the beach or sitting down close to the lake by the jetty, you’ll find me at a local cafe within a short stroll from my house, it has amazing coffee.
When do you work best? I’m very guilty of being a night owl when it comes to my creative work, I find it hard to sit at my computer inside if it’s a beautiful day outside, I'm easily distracted (sigh)....

My poor little blog is having a hicup and I don't know how to fix it... off to learn about coding, so that I can restore it

WISH ME LUCK!

Testing to see if I can update my sign off tag... It has been so annoying that it wasn't showing up on old posts.

Friday, 1 January 2016

My 2016 mantra is “Be as a bird perched on a frail branch that she feels bending beneath her, still she sings away all the same, knowing she has wings.” Victor Hugo

I have been debating if to climb out of my rabbit hole in 2015 or wait until 2016 but I decided to wait until in the New Year. I do need to move from the rabbit hole to the big gum tree on the very top branch in 2016. I have dreams to create, and they will not happen in a rabbit hole.

I want to be a bird looking down into my lane not holed up in a rabbit hole in the ground, which I did create for myself in the lane. Gee wiz I didn't surface to write a single post in 2015 after January. Now that 2016 is here, you will find me in my nest within that beautiful gum tree here in the lane. I need to SING again so sing I will...

I did follow through on purchasing GREEN CUPs in 2015,... I have 4 new cups: 2 stuffed with pens & paint brushes, 1 is for chinise tea and the other is a special gift from my best best friend. I couldn't believe that she choose me this special gift without knowing my theme, and it is the right colour too. Trish doesn't do the internet thing and I hadn't mentioned it to her at all... You have gotta love it when those sort of things happen... I heart her to bits, she is a beautiful friend who has stuck by me like for ever.

My theme for 2016 is going to be BLUE (my happy colour) and I am going to fly and search out some feathered friends to share the branch in my big gum tree...

Sunday, 4 January 2015

Oh My I do love my very first green cup purchase for 2015.  I do know they really are not a coffee cup but they are a tea light cup.... And I just couldn't walk pass them for $2.50 each. They called out to me.  It was the birds you see, they whistled at me :) :) I had to have each colour and they will look awesome lined up on my craft table.

The other photo is of our new dinning table set, the real reason we went to town to shop. Now we have some where that allows guesses to share a coffee with us instead of squeezing them on the outdoor setting.  We can pull this one out and add the other two chairs when needed.

Sunday, 28 December 2014

As I move into 2015, I want to keep my little purchasing idea... One item under $20.00 in a colour theme every now & then. I have been wondering what I should aim to purchase for my HOME over the next 12 months on a whim. I want to set a theme instead of random items, though I enjoyed the hunt, the I spy a white item that took my eye. I ended up with a little bunch of lovely items that I wouldn't have had if not for this little gift purchase for myself.

I couldn't decide on the colour theme, to start with so I decided to go with a colour that POPPED up on the next blog I entered. It was GREEN so I am running with that... I want to keep with the coffee part of the challenge that I used in 2014 as it is something I enjoy so so much. In 2015 I will be hunting down GREEN COFFEE CUPS. Any shape & size but the twist is that they must be a coffee cup that I can use on my desk to store paint brushes or pens etc. :) :) I LOVE that idea!!! It is something for me alone, a keepsake for my HOME.

I still need to loose a number of Kilos to get back to my healthy weight again, so that is my resolve for the next 12 months, but I want to enjoy food again instead of struggling week after week like I did this year so I want to move back into the Kitchen this year so each month I am going to find a desert & cook it (I will blog the results) but I will OWN the challenge again of loosing weight just for me.

I love this quote & it is going to be my Mantra for 2015

Tuesday, 23 December 2014

My last WHITE purchase item for 2014 had to be this beautiful white bird to hang on the tree, I think he will stay on my shelf and remain with the other items in my craft room at the end of the Christmas season.
This year my theme here in my blog was all about a coffee break...

You may have remembered my coffee cup showing up on a few posts here & there. So I have designed a new design for 2015.... I am going to go with the design of houses & with that home scrapping will hopefully be something I can get back into.

And the last symbol/logo below is hopefully going to be added when I do a Digital layout... Love the whimsical feel to these ideas. It is so so me! :)

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year dear blog lurkers. Stay happy xxx

The following photos are from the Bondi yearly 'Sculptures by the Sea' We meet our beautiful Son & spent hours walking along the shore line viewing the wonderful art. It was a wonderful display & even better having my two favourite men along.

While on my coffee break I have created the following pages :)

This is a framed scrapping page that I created for Margaret as a gift on her retirement this week.
This is another frame I scrapped for Elaine who also retired last month. Yes they are all departing after being with the company for quite a number of years. We are all taking guesses at who will be next :) :)

Wow it has been ages since I posted any status reports to my blog......

Op's that is a big SORRY! from me, life has just slipped by so so fast. I went off to our National Capital for a visit to my twin in early August, it is a wonderful place and I was able to catch up with my nephew who I haven't seen for years & years. All their children are young grown adults so it was really sweet to touch base with them all again.

On the creative front... There is not much doing at all, with the healthy kick I have been on, I haven't had time to open the program let alone create. I only have 4 layouts to speak of and they have been of the paper kind. Two have already been given away for a friend as a gift (Leanne I forgot to take a photo of them), the other two need a photo taken and as I dropped my camera while down in Canberra and the lens will not open & now my phone has decided to stop... I have no means to take a photo of any kind at all at the present. I'm not having much luck with techie items at the moment. It is so sad :( I do have a number of layouts floating around in my mind, so I am trying to factor a time into the planner to just open Photoshop & play to my heart's content. (once I get the TAX done for the 4 people on my LIST).

Keep your fingers crossed for me... :)

What have I been doing on my coffee break well I have been off enjoying the world of scrapping Project Life. I went off to a retreat to see if I could kick start my MOJO and to learn how to start this type of scrapping as I have had 2 full kits sitting in my stash unopened (Pulling a SAD face here). The retreat was a total eye opener on so many levels... I meet a bunch of wonderful scrappers & became one of the flock at Scrapbooking from scratch Honestly you need to check this on-line shop out. Peta is one very cool/sweet person. With the size of the participant's at retreat being over 60 scrappers, there was nothing left undone or not thought of.... HONEST it was a totally AWESOME!!! weekend of laughter & scrapping and I'm signing on for next year.

Bye Lucy

I’m not posting on a regular schedule.

I love blogging. And ever since I started blogging, I’ve noticed that posting on a regular schedule really helps with my creativity. But here’s the thing: I’m working on getting healthy and fit, so now that regular schedule takes away from the time I have to write blog posts. So for the time being, I’m throwing out the schedule and posting when I have something awesome to say/record in a blog post.

I will be putting a few photos up from our holiday to Britain & Paris over the next couple of days. We took over a 1000' or more of those, so I may as well share a few more here not just on face book. I haven't had much time to scrap any of them, as it was straight back to work for me, and after laying on the kilos since arriving home, I need to take a reality check and get those kilos off as they are causing me grief with my health

The tip of the Virgin Plane out the window of the Plane when we flew to Hong Kong, it was the last fight for Virgin on this leg. Australia to Hong Kong.

(Virgin have discontinued this leg. They no longer fly to or from Australia via Hong Kong ). We had to return via a Qantas  Plane, loved that it was called GOSFORD being close to were we live :)

Hong Kong Bay,

Bye Lucy
